Collection obtained from the Sir George Grey Special Collection at Auckland City Library.
Contains an orally transcribed letter written by Agnes Gardiner (on CDR), transcript of a diary written during her voyage to New Zealand in 1850, and a photocopied copy of this diary.
The Gardiner family (Agnes, her husband Robert Barlow and children Robert 6, Frederica 5, and Alice 2) travelled from Downs, England on the ship Eden which arrived in New Plymouth on 29 October 1850. Agnes died shortly after arriving in Taranaki, presumably from complications resulting from the birth of a daughter on 11 November - she died on 28 November 1850.
