A faded red silk jockey's cap. The interior is lined in white. " Garment by / W.J. EMMERTON / HAWERA " is written in black on a label mounted on the interior. " G BETTLE " is handwritten on the interior. Two lengths of ribbon are attached on the back of the cap.

It’s
likely
this
cap
was
worn
for
races
at
the
nearby
Egmont
Racing
Club.
The
cap
has
the
name

Bettle
written
inside
its
interior,
and
although
this
may
be
the
name
of
the
jockey
who
wore
the
cap,
we
don’t
know
for
certain.
