Droste was a confectionary company which was founded in 1863 in Haarlem, Netherlands. The well-known image of the nurse first appeared on Droste products around 1900, and helped to proclaim the health benefits of milk chocolate to consumers. Droste exported its products all around the world, with a break between the two world wars when raw materials became extremely hard to get hold of. It’s uncertain when this particular box came to New Zealand, as we don’t have any information on its provenance.
