A framed Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (CBE) medal and citation. The silver gilt medal consists of a cross patonce surmounted by a crown. The arms of the cross are enamelled pale blue. A medallion at the centre of the cross features Queen Mary and King George V surrounded by the motto "FOR GOD AND THE EMPIRE " in gold on a crimson enamelled border. The medal is attached to a rose pink ribbon edged with grey and has been framed and mounted behind glass along with a formal citation.

Dr William Patteson Pollock (Bill) Gordon received this honour on 13 June 1970 for services to medicine. Dr Gordon was married to the pioneering Dr Doris Gordon. When he returned from World War I service he set up a joint medical practice with her in Stratford. The couple called the hospital 'Marire' meaning ‘peace and happiness’ in Māori. " That symbolised our own ideal. If people had to be sick, let their surroundings be cushioned with peace and happiness," Doris wrote in her autobiography.
