Description
A group of eight unidentified men and one woman standing in front of a flat bed truck outside the Club Hotel on the corner of Tasman and Havelock Streets in Opunake. Originally established in 1885, the hotel was destroyed by fire in 1887 but later rebuilt.

This is not Middleton's Hotel, it is the Club Hotel built on the corner of Tasman/Havelock Street in place of Middleton's Hotel which burnt down in the fire that also burnt down my Great Grandfather's shop ( Mr H J Newman - Merchants - 87 Tasman Street - where Jeffries building still stands)

There was a lady they called 'Black Annie' in Opunake, could that be her in the photo? My mother is 86 and grew up in Opunake and remembers her. My grandfather Rod Walker was a Blacksmith as well and qualified as a Mechanic by correspondence to a company in Detroit, USA
