Frank Addis photograph album
Production date
1928-1930s
Description
Photograph album belonging to Frank Addis, a member of the Stratford Mountain Club. Contains silver gelatin prints of subjects including: climbing on Mount Taranaki (Egmont) in the 1930s; the Awakino River and road north; climbing and skiing at Ruapehu; and family photographs and images of overseas trips. The album also contains handwritten reminiscences by Frank Addis. The foreword of the album reads: "The average individual, I think takes life & all that it means for granted. How many people, I wonder, have ever considered writing their experiences. Do not think me vain in writing some of mine. Personally, I like to read this album & ponder over its contents. Perhaps, dear reader, this book will hold you, not in its spell; that is too much to expect, but at least for a long enough period to perhaps make you say "My experiences are equally worthy of recording." After all, time is apt to dull one's memory & that is why I have placed my quite, I think, ordinary experiences on record, for perhaps, any one who is interested enough to peruse. In any case, one can always close the book if uninteresting, whereas when listening to a speaker one can hardly (perhaps unfortunately) close the speaker!"
