Description
A Mercantile Marine War medal. The bronze medal with plain clasp features a left facing profile of King George V by Sir Bertram Mackennal on the obverse ". "GEORGIVS V BRITT: OMN: REX ET IND: IMP " is embossed around the profile. The reverse features a ship ploughing through heavy seas with a sinking submarine and a sailing vessel in the background. This scene is enclosed in a laurel wreath. " FOR WAR SERVICE MERCANTILE MARINE 1914-1918 " is embossed on the reverse. " JOHN WATSON " is marked on the edge. The medal is attached to a green and red with a thin central white stripe. The ribbon is mounted on cardboard.
