Production date
19 Oct 1928
Description
Collection of three photographs taken shortly after the formation of the New Plymouth Aero Club in 1928. Depicted in the images are Colin Derby and Jack Joll, and others have been identified as possibly Fred Teflar and Bill Trott. The first public meeting to form the New Plymouth Aero Club was held on the evening of Wednesday October 3rd 1928 in the Workers' Social Hall in Courtenay Street. Following a further two meetings, a group of enthusiasts built a mock-up aeroplane on Bill Trott's Essex car, in the Coronation Hall. On the evening of October 19th 1928 the mock plane headed a procession, led by Jack Joll, through the New Plymouth streets in the first public drive to recruit Aero Club members.
