Description
Collection of eight photographs depicting the grounding of the ship "Calm" after it ran aground off the end of Stent Road near the mouth of the Waiweranui River. On 14 July, 1956 during a storm the lighthouse beacon was extinguished through a power failure, and the vessel ran aground. Depicted in the images are R. R. Turnbull (Director of Canterbury S.S. Coy), Captain Wight (Captain of Port Fremantle), C. H. Crombie (General Manager of Canterbury S.S. Coy) and Mr Gibson (Chairman of Directors of Canterbury S.S. Coy) at Cape Egmont.
