Description
An Arctic Medal. The silver octagonal medal has a beaded rim. The obverse features a left facing profile of Queen Victoria. " VICTORIA REGINA " is marked around the edge. It is surmounted by a nine pointed star which represents the pole star. A suspension ring is attached to the top of the star. The reverse features a three masted vessel sailing in icy waters with a sledge party in the foreground. " FOR ARCTIC DISCOVERIES 1818-1855 " is marked on the reverse. The medal is attached to a white ribbon mounted on cardboard.
