Description
A French Morocco Medal (Médaille Morocco). The silver medal features a helmeted female facing left representing the French Republic." REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE " is marked around it. The reverse features a fort, flags, field gun and an anchor. " MAROC " is marked on it. The medal is fitted with a loose ornate suspender formed from branches of laurel and a crescent moon. The ribbon is fitted with a " MAROC " bar. The ribbon has light blue and white vertical stripes.

This type of medal was instituted on 22 July 1909 and awarded to military (and some civilian) personnel who had taken part in the pacification of the French Colony of Morocco. See: http://cas.awm.gov.au/item/RELAWM14780  This medal was donated to Taranaki Museum as part of a large collection made by the prominent south Taranaki lawyer John Houston.
