Description
A French Dardanelles Medal. The bronze medal features a left facing profile of a women wearing a wreathed helmet representing the French Republic. " REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE " is marked around it. The reverse features an axe and artillery piece before two standards, the nearer of which bears legend "HONNEUR / PATRIE / 1913 / 1918 ". "R. F." is marked on the right. It is attached to a green and white striped ribbon with an ornate clasp attached through a horizontally pierced barrel shaped suspension.

See the Fitzwilliam Museum http://www.fitzmuseum.cam.ac.uk/dept/coins/collection/watson/page77.html  This medal was donated to Taranaki Museum as part of the large collection made by prominent south Taranaki lawyer John Houston.
