Badge, Grand Army of the Republic
Description
A Grand Army of the Republic badge. The bronze five pointed star features five figures. A goddess of liberty is at the centre, with a solider and a sailor clasping hands and two children in between them. A flag and eagle is depicted on both sides of the group. Each point of the star features a symbol of various branches of armed service "GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC 1861 - VETERAN -1866 " is marked on a border around the central scene. The reverse features a laurel branch in each point of the star. The national shield features in the centre surrounded by the symbols of 24 different corps badges and a circle of starts symbolising the state of the union comprising the Grand Army of the Republic. The star is attached to a plain light blue ribbon by a bar, and bears a clasp in the form of crossed cannons and an eagle.
