A New Zealand Medal. The silver medal features a left facing profile of Queen Victoria on the obverse. " VICTORIA D:G:BRITT:REG:F.D " is marked around the edge of the profile. A wreath is featured on the reverse with " NEW ZEALAND VIRTUTIS HONOR " embossed around the edge of it. " A.F.B. KINGDON, TARANAKI VOL. " is marked on the edge. The medal is attached to a blue ribbon with a central red stripe by a straight suspension bar ornamented with fern leaf designs.

This New Zealand Medal was awarded A F B (Augustus) Kyndon who served in the Taranaki Volunteers during the Taranaki Wars. It was donated to Taranaki Museum as part of a large collection of medals made by prominent south Taranaki lawyer John Houston.
