A New Zealand Medal. The silver medal features a left facing profile of Queen Victoria on the obverse. " VICTORIA D:G:BRITT:REG:F.D " is embossed around the edge of the profile. A wreath is featured on the reverse with " NEW ZEALAND VIRTUTIS HONOR " embossed around the edge of it. " 394. SERGT. THOS. LISTER. 57th REGT. " is marked on the edge. The medal is attached to what appears to be a replacement blue ribbon with a red central stripe by a straight suspension bar ornamented with fern leaf designs.

This New Zealand Medal was awarded to Sergeant Thomas Potter Lister who served in Taranaki with the 57th Regiment and later the Armed Constabulary. It was donated to Taranaki Museum as part of a large collection of medals made by prominent south Taranaki lawyer John Houston.
