This t-shirt design was commissioned in 1985 by Max Gray who owned Construction Mechanics. Construction Mechanics Ltd and Brian Perry Holdings Ltd were responsible for laying different sections of a pipeline between the New Plymouth tank farm and Waitara Valley and they entered into a race. Construction Mechanics Ltd won the race and Russell Gilmer, who worked for them, organised for Laurence Larkin to design and print the t-shirts.
