A cased Military Medal. The obverse features the effigy of King George V with an uncrowned head. " GEORGIVS V BRIT: OMN. REX ET IND:IMP " is marked around the egde of the obverse. The reverse features the crowned royal cypher. " FOR / BRAVERY / IN THE / FIELD " is also marked on the reverse. The text is enclosed in a wreath. "R 15141 L. CPL C. A. JORDAN. 9 / K R. R. C. " is inscribed on the edge. The ribbon has broad dark blue edges which are flanked by a central section of three narrow white and two narrow crimson, stripes. The medal is held in a case with a hinged lid that is covered in dark blue leather. " J R GAUNT & SONS Ltd / LONDON " is marked on the underside of the lid.
This military medal was awarded to Lance Corporal Claude Alan Jordan of the King's Royal Rifle Corps, possibly during the attack at Delville Wood on 24 August 1916 during the Battle of the Somme.
