A Universal transistor audiometer complete with headphones and three wooden panels which interlock to form a portable screen. The audiometer is designed to sit on a table and has a grey control panel at the front featuring several dials and controls. It has a wooden case with a hinged compartment at the top which gives access to a battery compartment. No battery is present. A handle is also fitted to the top of the case. An input for the headphones is on the back of the audiometer. " No 533 / THE HEARING ASSOCIATION / 54 LEMON STREET / NEW PLYMOUTH / PHONES 83-400 & 36-083 " is written on a paper label taped to the interior of the lid.

This audiometer was used at the New Plymouth Hearing Association rooms in Lemon Street to provide free hearing tests as part of activities surrounding Deaf Awareness Week or as the need arose. People could then be referred to an audiologist if necessary.
