This English electric toaster was brought to New Zealand in the late 1920s by one of the original salesman for the brand. He used as his own machine while living in Manawatu and he only finally traded it in for a modern pop up appliance in 1982 when he brought it into a showroom of the Manawatu Power Board. It was then displayed in the showroom as a curiosity for some years. The toaster was designed for a double pole electrical system in England, rather than the multiple earthed neutral system used in New Zealand and the toaster used to give minor electric shocks as a result of this. It is said to have been in "continuous use" from May 1928 - March 1982 and was only finally replaced at the insistence of the salesman's wife.
