Description
A 1914-15 Star. The bronze crowned four pointed star also features crossed swords and a wreath of oak leaves with the royal cypher at the foot. "1914-15" is embossed on a central scroll. " CAPT. N.M. HALCOMBE / R.E. " is marked on the reverse. The star is attached to a watered red, white and blue striped ribbon by a simple ring. The ribbon is mounted on cardboard.

This medal was awarded to Captain Norman Halcombe. Halcombe survived active service in World War I but died from influenza in an Egyptian hospital just weeks after marrying Blanche Turton in January 1919. It was gifted to Taranaki Museum as part of the collection of south Taranaki lawyer John Houston.
