Welcoming Ceremony for the USS Staten Island

Description
A group of Maori in traditional costume with their backs to the USS Staten Island, facing two men, Commander Price Lewis Junior in naval uniform, and the other man (possibly New Plymouth Mayor Alfred Honnor) in a suit. The challenge (wero) of the powhiri was performed by Mr H. (Sonny?) Pratt at Moturoa Wharf. The USS Staten Island was an icebreaker ship from the United States which docked at New Plymouth in 1958 on its way to the Antarctic for Operation Deepfreeze IV.
