Description
A Kimberly Star. The silver six pointed star has a ball on each of the points. The Kimberley town arms are featured at the centre of the star. " KIMBERLEY 1899-1900 " is marked around the arms. " " MAYOR'S / SIEGE MEDAL /1900 " is marked on the reverse. The medal is attached to a half yellow and half black ribbon whose halves are separated by narrow stripes of red, white and blue bye a simple barrel suspension attached to a decorative bar. The ribbon is mounted on cardboard.

The Mayor and the council of Kimberley awarded this medal to the defenders of the mining town of Kimberley against the Boer forces. This medal was gifted to Taranaki Museum as part of the collection of prominent south Taranaki lawyer John Houston.
