I was the Master and also at times Chiefengineer on Ngamotu, during her life with Port Dredging. We dredged Napier, Gisborne, Whangarei and did the exploratory tests for the Lyall bay sewerage extension pipe. We then test sampled the Wellington wharf silt to investigate if there were health issues cleaning the docks. Unfortunately, it was deemed hazardous. The ship went to Auckland to prepare for the Australian project. I declined owing to knowledge of Australian maritime unions and also the area being dredged and time of year as I found this not feasible .
