Description
A heavy totara cross beam from a memorial cross that was erected to mark Māori graves at No.3 Redoubt, Huirangi. " HE TOHU WHAKAMAHARATANGA MO NGA IWI / NEI MO NGATI-HAUA, NGATI RAUKAWA, NGATI MANIAPOTO, / NGATI-MAHUTA, ME NGATI-AWA / I HINGA I KONEI I TE 23 HANUERE 1861 " is engraved on the front of the cross beam. The beam has been painted grey and has remnants of red paint near the centre. A niche is carved in the centre of the reverse where the cross beam would be attached to the vertical beam.

This cross beam was part of the memorial cross erected to mark Māori graves at No.3 Redoubt, Huirangi. The cross was one of a series of three which are thought to have been erected in 1909. The crosses were replaced by concrete versions in 1941.
