Description
Ambrotype studio portrait of Elizabeth Howell (nee Jennings). Howell is wearing a dress with a lace collar. She has one arm resting on a book that sits on a table. She is not looking at the camera. A ring and a brooch at her throat have been hand painted in gold paint. Matted with an embossed metal matt with patterned copper edging. Ambrotype is missing its case. Elizabeth Howell and her husband Simeon Howell arrived in Wellington, New Zealand, in December 1840 aboard the "London", along with other New Zealand Company settlers. They arrived in New Plymouth aboard the "Brougham" on 10 May 1842.
