The son of William Henry John and Laura Tobin, of Nevis Cottage, Tauranga, Thames, New Zealand and brother of Eleanor Jordan (nee Tobin).
George enlisted in 1915 with the 10th Reinforcements, Auckland Infantry Battalion, A Company.
Regimental number 12/3846.
He was killed in action at the Battle of the Somme, 15 September 1916, aged 31.
