Tobin, William John Henry and Laura

Description
A teacher at Waitara in the 1870's, William (Bill) met Laura, daughter of Major Charles Brown and a keen horsewoman at a hunt at Inglewood, they married 1 June 1878. After spending many years teaching at native schools in Northland they returned to Taranaki where Bill taught at Inglewood and New Plymouth, he retired to Tauranga and died there in 1914.
The collection includes family letters, documents and photographs relating to William and Laura Tobin.

Includes clippings on Lieutenant Tobin during the Afghanistan War 1880, family births, deaths and marriages. Unveiling of the Jordan memorial in Tauranga Domain (the statue of Canon Charles Jordan, Vicar of Holy Trinity for 39 years, who also served as Mayor of Tauranga for nine years) 1916. Some loose clippings.
