This scene is from 1963 when Taranaki regained the Ranfurly Shield, ending Wellington’s week-long tenure with a comfortable 17–3 win at Athletic Park. The team's mascot Ferdie is sitting near the shield. Taranaki lost 16–11 to Auckland in their last defence in 1965 and would not taste shield success again until 1996.
