A fabric badge of the New Plymouth branch of the Young Men's Christian Association ( YMCA ). The circular badge, which is mounted on black felted fabric, features a picture of a yellow building with a red roof and a green tree at the centre. " HUT / COMPETITION / WINNERS " is written in white. l. " NEW PLYMOUTH Y.M.C.A. CAMP HUINGA " is written in black on a red border running around the outside of the scene.

Badges like this one were were awarded to each member of the hut which for the duration of the YMCA summer camp, held at Camp Huinga near the Meeting of the Waters on the outskirts of New Plymouth, had a good behaviour record, completed all their camp jobs and participated in all the activities on offer.

As a youngster I was awarded not only this badge but others for achievement when I went to this camp back in 1960, sadly i don,t have any photos of these badges. I understand that the land used by the YMCA may have belonged to a Mr Alf Vile who gifted this area to what is today TOPEC, I now live in Mr Vile,s old home at Burgess park, the home was built early 1950,s and was next to his business of Mangorei Industries. I have somewhere a photo of a tent taken at the old YMCA camp which my older brother attended in the late 50s
