'Miss Furlong' is probably Margaret Furlong who was a senior nurse at NP Hospital where she had done her training. In April 1900 she left to become acting Matron at Hawera Hospital. She resigned there when she married on 31 March 1904 https://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/newspapers/HNS19040409.2.5 This photo would have been taken Feb 1894- Mar 1898 when Fernandez was Matron. She resigned in March 1898 due to ill health and died August 1898.
