Established in 1931 as a branch of the New Zealand Primary Schools Headmasters' Association, to provide a forum for members to discuss professional and educational issues. The membership of the Association was extended in 1958 to include principals of post-primary schools.
The records include official minutes from 1931 - 1969, attendance lists and correspondence 1932 - 1976 which include letters regarding school milk supply, ANZAC Day arrangements, teachers' salaries and conditions.

Name/Title
A narrative describing life on the upper Mokau River. In September 1927, Robert Wells was appointed sole teacher to the Mangatoi School 16 miles up the Mokau River. He was given board and lodgings by the Rutland family on the Pukeruru Station. Robert tells of his arrival with a description of the Pukeruru Station, Mangatoi School, education and life on the river which at that time was feeling the effects of the depression.

The New Plymouth Central School was opened in 1884; it was an amalgamation of several small schools operating in New Plymouth at that time - Kauwau (Miss Lydia Shaw), East School (O'Connell), West School (McKee) and Gill Street School (Miss Reeve).
The records include the minute books for the Central School Committee from 1918 to 1956, the minute book and register from the 50th Jubilee committee, five examination registers which give an incomplete coverage 1942 - 1962, the Courtenay Street (Infant) School log book 1911 - 1936, two Central School (Upper School) log books 1918 - 1970 and photographs 1890 - 1972 and a folder of examination reports for West End Infants' Public School 1886-1887.

The collection includes a minute book recording business from March 1909 - April 1919. and photographs from the 50th Jubilee, published in the Spotlight magazine.

Name/Title
A booklet compiled by Mrs Mabel Whitaker and pupils c1939. Norfolk School : A survey of the District 1841 - 1939. By the pupils of Norfolk School with the assistance of teachers.
Each chapter is written by a pupil, Mrs Whitaker was responsible for the original coloured boarders around each page. Some of the material is in her hand writing and the entry Dr Valentine's Story is also found in the Norfolk School Jubilee booklet 1879 - 1969. Includes an addendum a chronology of school events 1931 - 1946 and a copy of a photograph of M. Whitaker.

Name/Title
An unidentified man and woman talk with Peter Williamson. Peter, who was quite elderly at the time of recording, recalls his childhood, specifially in regards to his schooling - travelling in a gig, corporal punishment. He recalls people who lived on the Bedford Road, the dairy factory etc.
This is a poor quality sound with no identification, date etc. There are many pauses as they look and ponder over photographs.

Name/Title
The Riverlea School opened on the 1st February 1899 with 22 pupils, by the end of 1900 the school roll had risen to 67. The school house was the focus of community activities until a hall was built. In 1957 the decision was made to build a new three roomed school and this was opened on 15th February 1965. In April 1999 Riverlea School celebrated its centennial but a falling roll and a government policy of school closures saw Riverlea closed at the end of the school year 2003.
