Alexander Martin Zimmerman (b.12 May 1901; d.12 March 1986) stands beside a chair. He is 21 years old when this photograph was taken. One of his hands is positioned in the pocket of his trousers, the other rests on the back of the chair. He wears a three piece suit with some flowers in the button hole and a brooch on his vest. His hair is centrally parted. He was the son of Joseph and Joanna Zimmerman.

Five homes, built in a row on York Terrace, by Thomas Hirst for him and his wife along with homes for several of his daughters (including a daughter in law). The houses were built for: 1. Annis Hamerton (nee Hirst); 2. Jane Marshall (nee Hirst); 3. Jane Hirst (daughter in law, nee George); 4. Mary Devenish (nee Hirst); 5. Harriet Fookes (nee Hirst); and a home he built for himself and his wife Grace (nee Bracken). The road subsequently formed Pendarves St, with Hirst's house at the intersection with Elliot St.
