The reverse features a St George figure on horseback which is trampling a shield representing the Central Powers and a skull and crossbones. A sun is in the background. " 1914 1918 " is marked around the edge of this scene. " BARFORD BADLAND " is inscribed on the edge. The ribbon has a watered orange centre with stripes of black and white at the sides and royal blue edges. A safety pin is attached to the ribbon.

A Victory Medal. The yellow bronze medal features a standing Victory figure on the obverse. The figure is holding a palm branch in her left facing hand and extending her right facing arm. " THE GREAT / WAR FOR / CIVILISATION / 1914-1919 " is marked on the reverse inside a leaf design. "17606. GNR. B.B. BADLAND, N.Z.E.F." is inscribed on the edge. The ribbon is a double rainbow colour with crimson on the edges and red in the centre.

A water cooled, belt fed, Maschinengewehr MG08, machine gun. 7.92mm calibre. It has a short barrel at front, behind which is the large, long round water container. A rectangular box-like breech is located behind water container. Attached to lid is a calibrated hinged sight. Handles containing oil and oiling brushes located at back of box. Firing mechanism is behind handles. Serial number 11640. Has " Deutshe Waffen und Munitions - Frabriken. Berlin 1916 " stamped on the side.

A single barrel smooth bore flintlock pistol. The barrel appears to be strapped onto the stock with wire and both the metal and wood are engraved. It has a dome shaped decorative brass butt plate and the ramrod is missing.

Name/Title
A khaki flannelette PH Helmet respirator. The helmet is made up of a simple double thickness bag which widens near the bottom. There are two circular individual eyepieces covered by clear glass and framed with metal and a small air outlet hole in the centre. A mouth piece formed by a tin plate tube with a covering at one end is connected to this outlet. The helmet is accompanied by a khaki bag with a shoulder strap and another smaller khaki pouch.

A German Mle.1917Na model egg grenade with a friction fuse. A segmented grip ring runs round the centre of the grenade but the rest of the surface is smooth. The grenade has been painted black and the original loop from the fuse is missing and the explosives have been removed. " L D " is stamped on the base.

A brass cap badge of the XIII Reinforcements. The badge features the Roman numerals " XIII " at the centre flanked by two fern fronds and surmounted by a crown. " REINFORCEMENTS " is embossed on a scroll design at the base. A simple pin and clasp is mounted at the reverse of the badge.

A French Medaille Militaire. The medal is is circular and the edges are rimmed with oak leaf designs. A small breast plate motif with an assortment of weapons attached to the sides is attached with a hinge to the top of the medal. This in turn is attached to a yellow and green corded ribbon with a ring. The obverse side of the medal bears side profile of a women's face which is surrounded by a blue enamelled circle within which is the following text: "REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE * 1870 *". The following text is on the reverse: "VALEUR ET DISCIPLINE". This too was surrounded by a blue enamelled circle but only a tiny trace of enamel remains."T.W.H." is engraved on the rear of the breast plate.

A large embroidered pennant featuring the crest of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade 1914-1918. The fabric support is made from cream coloured silk framed by strips of lace. The whole pennant is fringed with lace. The crest of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade is embroidered in gold-coloured thread in the centre. " SOYES FERME " is marked in gold coloured thread within a scroll design. " N.Z.R.B. " is written in yellow with with red edging below this. There are small gold coloured sequins worked into the embroidery.

A small gold Sweetheart Brooch modelled on the design of an 11th (Taranaki Rifles) badge featuring Mount Taranaki / Egmont in the background and houses and farms in the foreground.= A scroll runs along the bottom inscribed with "TARANAKI XI RIFLES / REGIMENT". The pin on the back has been broken off. A "9CT " hallmark is stamped on the rear.

Name/Title
A dog tag which appears to have been made from a coin. Front has " N.Z / 15665 / M.W.BEATTIE / RC ", and the reverse features Queen Victoria. Surrounding this are the words "VICTORIA DEI GRA BRITT REG". Two holes have been drilled above and below the image. A cream coloured piece of cord is tied through the top hole. The edge of the dog tag is grooved.

" REPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE " is marked around the profile. The reverse features a cannon, a naval anchor and standards inscribed " HONNEUR / ET / PATRIE / SYRIE / CICILIE ". " LEVANT " is marked at the top with bronze assay mark. A bar marked " LEVANT " is attached to a narrow white and blue striped ribbon. The ribbon is attached to the medal via an elaborate decorative bar through a horizontally pierced barrel shaped suspender.

The arms of the cross are ornamented with foliage designs and a sword stands upright in the centre. " COMBATTANT VOLONTAIRE / 1914-1918 " is marked on the reverse. The cross is attached to a ribbon featuring orange, green and yellow stripes.

Name/Title
A New Zealand Engineers uniform badge, possibly belonging to Edward Cain of Te Kiri. The badge is circular and bronze, topped with a crown and a lion. The front of the badge has ' NZE ' embossed in the centre, with the words ' QUO FAS ET GLORIA DUCUNT ' embossed around the outside of the badge. On the reverse are two loops with a pin for attaching to clothing or similar.
