A pale gold, loosely woven, coarse silk shawl. Roughly square in shape, the shawl is trimmed with 0.8cm wide purple silk ribbon (attached 4.5cm from edge). Two of the four corners are decorated with pale gold and purple silk embroidery (including pine cone and floral motifs). Part of the ribbon and one section of the embroidery are on one side with the remainder on the other. c.1840s-1860s

Name/Title
A princess-style gown made of narrow striped silk. There are sixteen metal buttons down the front and six buttons on the cuffs of the balloon sleeves. There is a narrow pink velvet ribbon edging the cuffs, the double standing collar and along the front of the armholes. The narrow ribbon runs in sets of three. A wide band runs in sets of three from the shoulder at the back into the waist. Each piece ends with a tail that flares out upon the bustle. The shoulders are dropped and the sleeves are very full with a narrower foundation of brown cotton. The bodice is mounted on grey twill with an inner waistband attached at the back. There is a deep pocket in the right-hand side seam, three wide bands of pink ribbon along the bottom of the skirt and the hem is finished with a row of wide kilting.

A hand sewn cape made from layered claret coloured silk decorated with blue, white and red floral motifs. Silk lines run through the fabric forming 10.5cm squares. The collar and both layers are bordered with a claret-coloured fringe. The cape fastens at the neckline with a small, modern, pearl button and an embroidered buttonhole. The front edges are bound with narrow ribbon.

Name/Title
A blue handmade gown made of fine silk and lined with calico. The skirt is full and has cartridge pleating in the back to accommodate a bustle. The jacket is pointed at the front and attached at the waist of the skirt from the side seams to the back with the front panels unattached. The front waistband is left free and hooks under the jacket points. The jacket is full with a two-piece curved sleeve, dropped shoulder and has hooks and stitched eyelets for fastening up the centre front. The garment has a plain round neck and a trim made of Cluny lace attached to braid around the cuffs and yoke. On the back there is a rectangular panel hanging over the skirt pleats. This is also trimmed in lace. On the skirt there are three lines of holes from stitching where some decoration or flounce has been removed. The bottom of the hem is edged with a dark-blue wool.

A cream-coloured satin brocade bodice that ends at the waist. The front and back match in design with a diagonal opening of snap fasteners at the front. Wide pleats start at the shoulders and run diagonally down to the waist. Between the pleats there is a triangular lace insertion at the yoke. The sleeves of the garment are elbow-length and end with a band of lace. The edges of the neckline and sleeves are also decorated with a row of grey glass beads. There is a hook and snap fasteners for attaching to the skirt around the waist.

A cream-coloured brisé fan made of fine guardsticks of ivory or bone. The fan has nineteen guardsticks that are held together by a brass rivet and a silk ribbon that is weaved through. Each guardstick is 2.5cm wide at the top and tapers to 0.5cm at the bottom. They are finely carved with abstract shapes that are identical on the inside seventeen sticks. The two sticks on the outside ends have different matching shapes than those on the inside. The fan is finished with two cream-coloured tassels attached to the brass rivet which is made of cotton thread with a small white bead on each.

A waist-length jacket made of cream-coloured satin brocade with floral and ribbon motifs decorating it. The jacket is part of a matching bodice and skirt set. It has three bones along the back seams which have a green tack stitch at the top and bottom of each. Down the centre-front opening there are nineteen pearl buttons that are painted with a shimmer paint and handsewn buttonholes. One button is missing from the bottom of the jacket. The sleeves are constructed with two pieces of fabric and are fitted from the elbow to the wrist. There are curved darts at the centre front for shaping and pleats that are attached at the centre back of the waist. The collar is high and made of a floral embroidery on lace netting. A short lace ruffle edges the collar. Around the waist of the jacket there are four hooks for attaching to the skirt.

The skirt is long and has several pieces of fabric patched together. The construction of the garment includes panels and uses of gores for a slightly flared shape. It has pin marks around the underarm from where is was removed from a garment and is lined with cotton. At the end of the satin there is a piece of attached sheer silk that has been shaped into a cuff and fastens with a hook and eye.

There are eight green fabric-covered buttons lining the centre front with handsewn button holes. The cuffs are layered with horizontal tucks, followed by a row of kilting and a full piece of taffeta. There are several shaped darts and a set of tails that are edged with fabric-covered buttons on the back. There is another row of kilting under the tails. The front of the garment is shaped with darts that flare out at the waist. It is stiffened with bones on the front and side seams.

There is black piping around the arms and collar and a curved front with a small band collar. A black panel extends from around the back of the neck to the front bust and ends with a ribbon on the left-hand side. The cuffs have a band of kilting and a ribbon on top. The hem is cut up along the sides of the hips and tapers back down to a row of pleats at the back rear.
