A flat, rectangular wooden box, with a brass hook and eye catch. Newspaper clipping adhered to inside lid reads " CAUTION TO THE PUBLIC - We would caution / the public when posting newspapers in envelopes / not to stick the stamp partly on the envelope and / partly on the paper, for when the papers reach / England they will be charged as letters. The stamp / must be placed either on the envelope or on the / paper". Two white Wilson Crest seals which feature a talbot's head read " Semper Vigilans ". The box originally contained two brass balance scales and fifteen small weights. Some of the weights are marked " Apothecaries Weights " and some are marked "Two Drams" with a crown.

A degraded brass New Zealand Volunteers helmet plate which features a Southern Cross motif enclosed in a circle that is banded with the name of the regiment. This is encircled by a pattern of radiating lines and finished at the edge with a wreath bearing fruit. An Edwardian crown sits at the top of the plate.

A brass powder flask featuring flower heads on a lattice design. There are measuring marks on the top nozzle between 3 and 2 1/4 spring at the base of the nozzle with release catch. There are two carrying rings, one at each side. " Dram " and " G. & J.W. Hawksley" is marked on the nozzle. The flask appears still to be in working order.

A brass cap badge of the XIII Reinforcements. The badge features the Roman numerals " XIII " at the centre flanked by two fern fronds and surmounted by a crown. " REINFORCEMENTS " is embossed on a scroll design at the base. A simple pin and clasp is mounted at the reverse of the badge.

A scroll with the following text l "N.Z. CYCLISTS CORPS" is below the wheel. "J.R. GAUNT / LONDON" is stamped on the back and there is a brass clip on the rear for fastening.

A trench art paper knife and nib pen made of brass and steel. The decorated blade tapers to a point at one end and is slotted into a handle fashioned from a rifle bullet case that is decorated with a crown from a badge or a button. " MESSINES " is marked on the blade. A small nib pin with a short rounded handle fits into the bullet case.
