The upper section of the walls is covered in floral and bird patterned wall paper. There are several framed artworks hanging on the lower section of the walls and mounted photographs on the mantlepiece. There are vases, some of which hold flowers, on the mantlepiece, the cabinet, tables and piano. Frilled light fittings hang from the ceiling.

A roadworking crew is posed outside the Club Hotel on the corner of Tasman and Havelock Streets, Opunake. The crew consists of three men, a horse-drawn cart and a large piece of machinery identified as a tar boiler. One of the men is leaning on the horse that is attached to the cart. An area of the road in the lower right hand side of the photograph appears to have been smeared with tar or oil. There are two rectangular tins on this area of the road.

Seven workmen are posed with three horses in a quarry identified as Carter's Gravel Pit. Several of the men are holding shovels, pickaxes or other implements. Another man is seated on the edge of the quarry above the pit. There is a dog seated beside him. Piles of rock can be seen in the lefthand forground and righthand side of the photograph.
