Name/Title
Studio portrait of Frederick "Bob" Arthur Tanner of Fitzroy, New Plymouth. He wears three piece suit with floral spray in lapel button hole and sits on a carved stool.

Son of Eleanor and Frederick Tanner. A member of the Fitzroy Fire Brigade. Was killed in action in World War One on 16th April, 1918 and buried in Somme, France. He is commemorated on the memorial gates at Fitzroy Primary School.

The original carte-de-visite spells Colville without the 'e' and refers to him as "A. Colvill". Books written about the Land Wars include a Lieutenant Colonel Colville of the 43rd regiment, the regiment which both the original and the file cards mention

There is some discrepency over Thompson's rank: File cards record Thompson as a Captain but the original records him as a Lieutenant. It is more than likely that Thompson received the rank of captain later in the wars.
