Collection of four photographs showing the construction of the Fazackerley Timber Impregnation Company's new timber treatment plant in Swansea Road, Stratford, c1954. The photograps show different views of the plant including the interior with kiln bricks and pipes visible, an exterior view of one part of the plant with scaffolding on the wall and a pile of timber in front, and another exterior view showing the yard in front of the buidings.

Fazackerley's timber company was active at various sites in east Taranaki from the 1920s until the firm was disolved in August 2008.

Philip's daugther Catherine can be seen sitting against the fencepost to the right of the path. She is wearing a light-tone pinafore over a dark-sleeved top and she has a dark shawl on her head. Catherine became known as Kate and later married Sydney George Smith.

Alice Barbara Sumner is the daughter of Dorothy Paradine Sumner (nee. Sadler) and James Cuthbert Sumner. Mary Sadler is Dorothy Sumner's sister.

Name/Title
The original Urenui Hotel. It may have been known as the 'Star Hotel', built in 1879, on the corner of Nikorima and Ngatoki Streets. A report in the Taranaki Herald dated May 1879, states the new Star Hotel as having a frontage of 40 feet, a depth of 40 feet and elevation of 24 feet. There are three horse-drawn carts in front of the hotel with several people, some sittiing on the carts and others standing on the road. A row of trees can be seen in the background on the right.

The Lowgarth dairy company was established in 1896 and the building was designed and built by J. Simmons in 1924.

Several business are visible on the left, including the Majestic Restaurant, Maypole Supermarket, the Regent Theatre, and a side entrance to the Royal Hotel. The building near the centre with the steep triangular pediment and Corinthian pilasters was built in 1913 and designed by architect J. E. Roe. There are cars lining the street and several people can be seen walking and riding bicycles.

There is a row of cars parked behind the building. Two tanks on a small hill can be seen in the background as well as two houses. The area in the background is largely undeveloped land.

The photograph is likely to have been taken shortly after the airport opened for operation on November 7 1966. This airport replaced a grass field airport that had been operating at Bell Block.
