Greenfinch (Carduelis chloris chloris) nest - slightly untidy structure of twigs, moss, wool, dry grass and rootlets. Dishevelled clump to one side of nest. Quite small in size. Lots of sheep wool has been used in the composition of the nest. Small paper note inside nest with following text handwritten in faded ink on it: "Nest of Green linnet. / Queenstown, Otago / Nov. 1900. / Eggs in collection". In fair condition. Small Fantail nest. Nest is compact, circular and open, with a wide edge and small central cup, and is composed of grass, moss, twigs, bark and rootlets, bound together with cobwebs and lined with hair or fibre. Bottle is actually an old methylated spirits bottle from Teeds Chemist Ltd, New Plymouth. Salmon pink label attached to neck of bottle reads as follows: "Eudynamis taitensis / LONG-TAILED CUCKOO / New Plymouth / 20/4/67 J Clark" on one side and "Sromach contents / 10 green stick insects" on the other. Note concerning the positioning of the contents in the stomach is attached via a piece of string to the neck of the bottle.
