Piece of brown fulgurite, shaped similar to a tree branch. The cylindrical shape of the main rock curves and then branches into two sections at the end. The fulgurite has a rough, uneven surface. There are variations in the brown colouring, from light tan to deep red, and light-coloured flecks visible overall. The larger end has a melted, lumpy texture to the centre.

A skull and mandible of a Leopard Seal (Hydrurga leptonyx). The skull has been broken into several pieces before being glued back together and the mandible appears to have been broken in half. Three top teeth are missing and some small chips of bone are also missing from various places. There are a number of pencil marks on the bone which it appears were used to help glue the skull together.

Many of these labels also include location information. The box is rectangular with a hinged lid and is covered with an embossed gold coloured paper. The hinged lid is lined and fitted with a label on the top and underside which features a hei tiki design. " MINERAL SPECIMENS / OF / NEW ZEALAND " is marked on the label along with fern and kowhaiwhai type patterns. " SET X1 / CARNEGIE " 96 PIECES " is marked on a paper label stuck to the underside of the lid.
