A plaque at the front reads " anomalopteryx didiformis / Mounted from remains found in a cave near Mahoenui on 6th August 1965 and presented to the Taranaki Museum by the Taranaki Caving Club (Inc)." The bones have been coated with varnish and part of the skull has been broken.
