Name/Title
A mounted ruru (morepork) with wings extended and perched on end of a length of wood. The bird is predominantly light brown and the upper wing area has scattered white spots on it. The longer feathers on the wing are also dotted with white however when the wing is extended it gives the effect of stripes. The feathers around the neck and lower back are in poor condition and appear to have been plucked The wood is mounted on a piece of wood with bevelled edges. There are two plaques attached to the wood. The first is an attribution plaque that states " DONATED TO / OTAKEHO SCHOOL / BY MR & MRS P.C. VERBEET " and the second plaque is a Wildlife Service identification number.

A " Bird Eating " spider mounted in a wooden frame on a red felt background with legs extended. The frame is missing the glass and is covered with a clear plastic sheet secured with masking tape. The rear of the frame has a metal chain for hanging. " BIRD EATING SPIDER / South America / A PRODUCT BY / EXOTIC NATURE DISPLAYS " is written on a label on the reverse along with a picture of a black and white butterfly.

A dark grey fossilized whale vertebrae. It is the centrum from a lumbar vertebra from the lower back of a small to medium sized adult baleen whale. The vertebra has been bored by small pholad shellfish after the whale died. Erosion has resulted in a smooth surface.

Part of a moa tarsometatarsus (leg bone) encased in papa. The bone is brown and the majority of it has broken off. The end of the tarsometatarsus where the claws attach is still intact.

A fossilised piece of Dentalium Otamaringaense, collected from the mouth of the Urenui River in 1929. The fossil is a ridged white shell with a plug of darker material in its centre. The white shell is wrapped with a piece of grey material which looks a little like concrete.

A golden orbweb spider (Nephila edulis) found in Merrilands in 2013. The spider has a white abdomen which is translucent, and a darker cephalothorax. When the spider was alive the cephalothorax was black with a white pattern. The legs are golden in colour. The spider is floating in preserving liquid on its back.

A paramoudra trace fossil with a hole at the top and cylindrical cavity at centre. The cavity has a porous, bone coloured, fossilised surface. At the bottom of the cavity are several worm-like forms. The fossil is ovoid in shape when viewed from above and has distinctive nipped lower half when viewed from the side.
