Single tree root - quite narrow and straight - with a large brown warty bulbous growth at one end. Growth has quite a flat top and droops down underneath on one side a little. Root has bark on it (moderate areas of bark loss evident however), and has been cut. In fair condition - there is a large crack (almost "t" shaped) extending from one side of the head to the other and if given a good enough knock would break. Small patches af surface loss due to item being knocked etc during previous storage.

Cordyceps robertsii (Vegetable catepillar). The fungus has taken over the body of a native moth with Aoraia dinodes or Dumbletonius sp. The body is brown and dried. The outline of the segments can still be seen. The long stalks are part of the fungus and would be attached to the catepillar body.

Many of these labels also include location information. The box is rectangular with a hinged lid and is covered with an embossed gold coloured paper. The hinged lid is lined and fitted with a label on the top and underside which features a hei tiki design.
