Collection consists of the tracings Fred Coleman designed as a part of the process of creating the numerous artworks he contributed to the New Zealand Scouting Association. The tracings include those created for memorabilia associated with Scouting Jamborees, national regional and international Scout badges, commemorative Scout cards and certificate as well as tracings used for his own personal artworks.

During the 1950's Fred Coleman assumed responsibility for designing the New Zealand District Scout Badges. These had become more prolific after 1955 (when Scouting transformed from the County era to the Provincial era) as there was a greater need for badge standardisation. Fred also designed many of the early official badges and Scout Jamboree badges.
This is a collection of regional, international and miscellaneous Scout badges designed by Fred Coleman. The collection includes paintings of finished badge designs, photographs of badges in the final stage of design and the embroidered finished product of the badge.

Framed sketch of a stamp. Has "Stamp made for 1958/9 Jamboree but it was not accepted" inscribed on back of frame. Drawing depicts Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the global scouting movement. This drawing was submitted to the Jamboree standing committee in November 1957 but was not accepted as an official stamp to commemorate the Jamboree. However Coleman’s design for the Jamboree badge was accepted.
Depicts Baden-Powell in a traditional lemon squeezer hat with scout neckerchief and toggle uniform items. Has New Zealand 3D inscribed above the officer and Pan Pacific Jamboree 1959 with the official Boy Scout logo below Baden-Powell. The sketch is signed by Fred Coleman in bottom right corner.
