A ring and a brooch at her throat have been hand painted in gold paint. Matted with an embossed metal matt with patterned copper edging. Ambrotype is missing its case. Elizabeth Howell and her husband Simeon Howell arrived in Wellington, New Zealand, in December 1840 aboard the "London", along with other New Zealand Company settlers. They arrived in New Plymouth aboard the "Brougham" on 10 May 1842.

The photograph is housed in a plain leather case. The lid of the case is lined with orange embossed velvet. A hook clasp is mounted on the left hand side of the case. Simeon Howell and his wife Elizabeth Howell (nee Jennings) arrived in Wellington, New Zealand, in December 1840 aboard the "London", along with other New Zealand Company settlers.
